Geleya Kannada Movie

Cast: Prajwal Devaraj, Tarun, Keerat, Kishore, Rangayan Raghu, Paramesh, Yogi, Bullet Prakash
Music: Mano Murthy

Geleya Movie ReviewGeleya is a technically polished film, which has based its story of two young friends from a village who accidentally enter the Bangalore Underworld and then become active as dons. Though it is a well-made film with good technical values and some good performances, the story idea is itself regressive. What sort of message you are sending to the society by telling the story of two innocent villagers turning into dreaded criminals of underworld. And these two teenaged youngsters become dons within a short time that too by taking weapons and killing many people.

Though Geleya is a well-made film in commercial standards, it should be said that the neither the director nor the producers of the film have thought of the social consequences of making such gangster films. And both the lead artists Prajwal and Tarun look like the kids who have just passed out from their schools.

Director Harsha who has directed a film for the first time has been the most successful as a choreographer of films. He could have chosen a music and dance based story for his film. But he has preferred a gangster story instead. And he has followed a narration, which does not have an iota of softness.

Vishwa and Guru are two friends from a village. Vishwa is in love with Nandini and Guru supports their love. One incident makes them to move out of the village and come to Bangalore where they accidentally become carriers for two underworld groups. Guru hatches a plan and both the friends take part in a fake killing accident, which takes them closer to the chief dons of the two rival groups. Despite being members of the two rival groups, the friends are meeting and talking to each other. Vishwa gets married to Nandu with the blessings of the Chief of his group. Later Guru kills the chief of Vishwa's group. Circumstances force Vishwa to occupy the top position in his group. Later he kills the chief of his rival group. Then both Guru and Vishwa head their respective gangs and become sworn enemies. Then the Police Chief decides to engage a top police cop to take care of these gangs. He is given full freedom and both Guru and Vishwa are made to run for cover. What happens later is better to be watched in the film.

Prajwal Devaraj and Tarun are too young artists to perform the type of roles.

Gulama Kannada Movie

Cast & Crew:
Cast: Prajwal Devaraj, Biyanka, Sonu, Rangayana Raghu, Avinash,
Sudha Belawadi
Director, Screenplay & Story Writer: Tushar Ranganath
Producer: Ramu
Lyrics: Tushar Ranganath, Kaviraj
Cinematography: K M Vishnuvardhan
Editing: Deepu R Kumar

“Gulama” is the directorial debut of young Tushar Ranganath, who has written the scripts and dialogues for many Kannada films earlier. Also, since it is this year’s first release, specially being a much publicised film by top producer Ramu, audiences had certain expectations from “Gulama”.
But the film has a weak narration. Ranganath has tried to portray the film as realistically as possible, but he hasn’t been able to make an impact as far as its emotional content is concerned.
Ranganath’s core strength always lay in writing dialogues. The dialogues in “Gulama” are crisp and hard hitting, but they lack freshness.
Most of the characters in “Gulama” look real. The typical representatives of the lower middle class households are seen in this film, which is essentially a triangular love story in the backdrop of Bangalore’s underworld.
On the positive side, the dialogues are natural and bring the different characters and their backgrounds alive on screen. Ranganath knows the diction and peculiarity of Bangalore-based gangsters and he uses this effectively in many sequences.
But he fails to do justice to the movie’s emotional content. Even the climax sequences, which are high on emotional quotient, fall flat because of an insipid narration.
The story revolves around Anil, who is the son of a police driver. His neighbour Divya loves him, but Anil is drawn towards the beautiful Priyanka, who wants to make it big in the glamour world. Anil does not reveal his feelings to Priyanka, but confides in Divya instead.
The plot takes a turn when Anil comes in contact with members of Mafi Gowda’s gang, which attacks his father. An enraged Anil decides to join hands with Gowda’s rivals to eliminate him. He then becomes a target not only for Gowda’s gang members, but also the police.
Despite being hunted by the police and gangsters, Anil does everything to please Priyanka and even arranges for money to finance her trip to Mumbai. Finally, Priyanka comes from Mumbai and plead with Anil to marry Divya, who loves him deeply.
It is a good role for Prajwal Devaraj, but he excels only in the fight and dance sequences. He is found wanting in the emotional scenes. The Mumbai-based model looks glamorous, but has few opportunities to show her acting skills. Sonu too has to pick up the threads of acting. Rangayana Raghu impresses in a brief yet different role.
Surprisingly, music director Guru Kiran’s tunes are just average. However, cameraman Vishnuvardhan deserves appreciation for his work.
“Gulama” ends up as an ordinary film despite its sparkling dialogues.

Meravanage Kannada Movie Review

Prajwal Devaraj's Meravanige has finally hit the screens after it was launched nearly one year back. Yet the film turns out to be a neatly packed film with some good creative inputs. Mahesh Babu's handling of a love story is quite different from what he did before and is quite different from the films which are being released now.

'Meravanige' tells the story of Vijay a careless son of a top cop. Vijay spends his time in kidnapping his lecturer's son and blackmailing him to give the questions papers rather than studying hard. He always has qualms with Nandini his college and class mate regarding petty issues. Nandini is also the daughter of another top cop who happens to be a close aide of Vijay's father. Both the fathers fix their children's marriage without their knowledge. Just when everything goes haywire, terrorists kidnap them and hides them in the forest. How loves blossoms between the two and how they escape from the forest forms the rest of the film.

'Meravanige' maintains a good pace like in any other Mahesh Babu's film. But for the crudeness in some of the comedy sequences in the film, 'Meravanige' is a nice presentation with some minor negative aspects here and there. The credit for a neat presentation once again goes to Mahesh's Babu's screenplay and direction. Babu engages the audience with some interesting twists here and there particularity in the second half of the film.

The performances of the artistes are equally notable. Particularly Prajwal. He carries the film simply on his shoulders from start to finish. Whether it is comedy or action or sentiment Prajwal is a treat to watch. Andrita Ray is the surprise package of the film. Though much cannot be expected from her in terms of acting, she is lively and lovely. Avinash, Bhanuchander, Sadhu Kokila, Komal Kumar provide adequate support.

Music by V Manohar is good. "Yelliruve Neenu", "Nannolave Nannolave" are pleasent. "Pathangavaagi Naa" has shades of "Zara Sa Jhoomloon Mein" from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Mahesh Talkad's camera work also gets accolades.

Meravanige is worth watching by the entire family.
