Movie Review
Galipata is one film that was most expected in the Kannada film industry in recent times. The film was the product of the combination of director Yogaraj Bhatt and Golden Star Ganesh who had earlier delivered a blockbuster like Mungaru Male. And with raising expectations about the film, it was certainly a challenging and difficult task for the director to present a film that is strikingly different from the original, but yet entertain the audience. Bhatt has won the new battle with his craftsmanship in writing and narrating. One heartening note is that he has been able to get the best from his team. And the film meets all the expectations it rose in good measure, though there are some jarring notes in the film, which could have been avoided.

Yograj Bhatt has packaged the film with his superb craftsmanship and writing ability. He comes out best in his dialogues and also in the way he handles the narration of the film. He displays his clear and unambiguous technique of telling the story on celluloid and it shows his deep understanding of cinema.

Galipata revolves around three young people of naive and confused behavior who are unsure of what they need in their life. And they move out to a village in search of some mental peace and tranquility. They encounter different experiences in the village and meet lively characters with different outlook. And the authentic and aesthetic presentation of the film is certain to appeal the youngsters who look for some freshness and new techniques in filmmaking.

Galipata is strikingly original in its presentation being shot in stunningly looking interior and outdoor locations. Bhat takes care in selecting the finest craftsman for the technical departments and is also well supported by brilliant artists. And he shows superb talent in his dialogues, which is certainly the highlight of the film.

Golden Star Ganesh is a laugh riot in the film with his dialogues. He rocks emotionally too. And it is one performance where he shines brilliantly in almost every scene. Diganth is at his spontaneous best in the film. Rajesh Krishna is delightful in his role. Anant Nag once again delivers a commanding performance and is adorable when he goes on for the hunting sequences. Daisy Bopanna takes out a role that she has not done before and emerges a clear winner with superb handling of her role. Newcomer Bhavana Rao surprises with her lively performance. And Neetu comes out with ease in her gritty role. All the others have given competent performances in the film.

Technically the film is brilliant and the film can stand out proudly with the best films made in the country. Rathnavelu is outstanding in his camera work. Aesthetic camera angles and pleasing visuals of Rathnavelu is certainly a treat to watch. And Harikrishna comes out a winner with his music compositions. Minchaagi Neenu Baralu stands out.

Gaalipata is certainly one of the better Kannada films to be released recently. The youngsters and the peppy crowd will like the film very much. Yogaraj Bhat proves his mettle once again. And for Ganesh's fans it is one more addition to their memorable, priced films.

SharaPanjara Kannada Movie

Directed by Puttanna Kanagal
Written by Triveni
Starring - Kalpana, Gangadhar
Release year - 1971
The movie is based on the eponymous novel by the acclaimed writer Triveni and revolves around the issues of a woman's chastity, the problem of acceptability of mentally ill by the society and unfaithful spouse. The story starts with the chance meeting of the heroine Kaveri Kalpana and the hero Suresh (Gangadhar). Suresh falls in love with Kaveri who is educated, sophisticated, beautiful and hails from a respectable family. Eventually they get married with the blessings of their parents. They are a picture perfect couple. They build their dream house, they beget a son, buy a car and are generally prosperous. When Kaveri conceives for the second time, the doctor express concern over her weakness. During post partum period, she remembers the incident in her past wherein she is forced into incestuous pre-marital sex by her cousin and loses her mental balance. During this delirium she reveals this to her husband. She is then admitted to a mental hospital. After recovery, she is discharged from the hospital. The doctors inform Suresh of Kaveri's delicate state of mind and that she needs to be loved and cared for. However, Suresh still affected by the thought of his wife's pre-marital relationship ignores her. Kaveri discovered that she will have to face scorn from her family, neighbours and her husband. The final blow comes when Kaveri discovers that Suresh is having an extra-marital relationship with a female colleague. Unable to bear it, she ultimately goes insane and is admitted to the same mental hospital. Kalpana's performance as a traumatic woman was widely acclaimed by critics.

Parallel is drawn between the heroine Kaveri and Sita the heroine of Ramayan the holy epic of Hindus. Sita's chastity too tested by her husband Rama after she is kidnapped by the demon Ravan. Though Kaveri loves her husband, he refuses her because of her chastity though she did not willfully engage in pre-marital sex. Instead he takes it as an alibi to be unfaithful to her. The other issue if that of the social acceptability of mental ill people. The general treatment Kaveri receives from her servants, her cook, her family members and neighbors. The society is absolutely callous and lacks the sensitivity that is so much needed by people like Kaveri.

Apart from the performance of Kalpana what is eye-catching is her tasteful costumes and her elegance. This movie goes on to prove her artistic abilities.

Actress 'Kalpana' received state award for her lead role.

Orata – I Love You Kannada Movie

Banner: Golden Lion Films Division
Cast: Prashanth, Sowmya, Avinash, Sharan, Satyajith, Mandya Ramesh, Padma Vasnthi, Biradar, Hasirh, Soori
Direction: S.V.Rajendra Singh Babu
Production: Sarjapura C.R.Manohar
Music: G.R.Shanker

Orata – I Love You Movie Review

Director Sri has worked hard to keep the attention of the audience tight through the screenplay in his very first venture. That is the main saving grace of this tragic love story 'Orata…I love you'.

The lead player’s inexperience has been a hitch for this film which is like body devoid of breath. Lovely tunes and perfect photography adds a little to the film. The focal point is washed-out.

What happens when a ruffian with no education, civilization but good heart falls in love for the first time? He falls at her feet and begs her for love. Yes. This is what happens in the film. Begging for love to his love!

The rejection of love his obviously leads him to depression but the warmth of his love is in tact with the hero. He saves her humility gives shelter for her but he is not ready to tell 'I Love You' at that moment of time.

The situation changes now for the heroine Kavya. She wants to say ‘I love you’ for Varada. But’ she decides to express it after her studies. In the combat it was the old settling of scores that Varada faces from don Kencha, when the politician he helped in the election deceives him. Varada faces the boulder shock. He is badly beaten. He wants to declare himself dead. His friends agree to do so. It is because Varada wants to live in seclusion in a far of place. Destiny does not allow it to happen. Kavya looking at this falls sick. What happens later in the climax is another twist in the film.

In his debut Prashanth has worked very hard but that is not so convincing. His dialogue delivery is aping that of Shanker Nag. The requisite anger has not come out from him. Sowmya as heroine making debut is good for second heroine roles. Height is another problem with her. Avinash, Satyajith and Shobaraj have done the similar roles in the past too.

GR Shanker the debutant music director has the tang for melody. Suresh Babu's camera is ample.

Mussanje Maathu Kannada Movie

Banner: Suresh Jain
Cast: Sudeep, Ramya, Anu Prabhakar, Yethiraj, Meghasri, Ramesh Bhat, Sumithra, Mandya Ramesh, Praneshachar, Krishne Gowda, Padma Vasanthi

Production: Jhankar Movies
Music: Sridhar

Mussanje Maathu Kannada Movie Review

Mussanje Maathu is sure to bring in warmth to the hearts of the audience and moist the eyes. The film is an emotional saga narrated in a neat fashion. The experiment of new looks and a stylish hair do by actor Sudeep and his touching performance is the major highlight of this film. The songs laced with melody is another appealing factor that makes this film totally different from the many nondescript gangster and violent films that are hitting the Kannada film industry these days.

Debutant director Mahesh makes Mussanje Maathu a thoroughly enjoyable film with his neat handling of a sensitive and offbeat subject. A neatly packaged film with high voltage emotions, extraordinary performances and lilting songs with well written lyrics, Mahesh should be complimented for directing this clean and likeable film in his first attempt.

Story wise Mussanje Maathu does not boast of a very strong story line, but even this thin story makes a strong impact on screen because of the incidents relating to Radio Jockey's programme are narrated in a refined and touching manner. And the performances of some top artists like Sudeep, Ramya, Anu Prabhakar and Ramesh Bhat take the film to greater heights of appeal. However Mahesh shows little immaturity in handling the film's so called comedy sequences which fail to make impact. And some of the situations in the film look repetitive which reduces the desired impact. A little bit of editing and sharpening of sequences may still make the film a little more attractive.

The story revolves around a good hearted Radio Jockey Pradeep who anchors an evening programme in a channel. Through his programme he is able to solve problems of many people and he is also able to provide emotional relief to the affected people with his positive interaction. Tanu has been emotionally ravaged after losing her mother and deserted by her father comes from her native place to take refuge in her friend's house in the city. Tanu also reveals her trauma in one of the programmes. She accidentally meets Pradeep and they become friends. Pradeep brings a big change in her attitude to life and even unites her with her reformed father. Both Pradeep and Tanu hide their inner feelings with each other. And then Tanu's marriage is arranged by her father. Finally everything is resolved in a gripping climax.

Sudeep comes out in flying colours with his matchless performance. He underplays the emotions but does lend his extra ordinary voice to heighten the impact of many sequences. He looks extremely tylish and young with his new hair cut and spectacles. Ramya performs top class in many sequences and certainly the film will be remembered as one of her best films. Equally brilliant is Anu Prabhakar who scores in many emotional sequences of the film. Veteran actors Ramesh Bhat and Sumithra are equally impressive.

Veteran Sundaranath Suvarna is extremely competent in picturising song sequences. Sridhar's music composition is extra ordinary with songs like Ninna Nodalentho, Enaagali Mundhe Saagali and Kaddalu Manasanna which are sure to remain in top of the charts. The choreography of these songs are effective.

Mussanje Maathu is a well made film which may appeal to all segments because of a high degree of emotional content and refined performances from artists!

Nenapirali Kannada Movie

Cast: Naveen Krishna, Prem, Vidya Venkatesh, Varsha
Direction: Rathanaja
Production: Ajay R Gowda
Music: Hamsalekha

Nenapirali Movie Review

Nenapirali is a film that lingers in your mind many hours after you come out of the theatres. It is a treat to watch for film fans who are time and again subjected to badly made remake films and so called action films in which the characters of the film bandish swords and rifles. The film is neatly narrated and has splendid visuals shot in locations which have been shot many a times by other film makers. But still the sequences look fresh and stunning on the screen. The film also has some scinitillating songs with good lyrical value written by Hamsalekha. The film stands out for the sincerity of the director Rathnaja and producer Ajay Gowda who have shown some great passion in making this near film.Another plus point of this film is a good performances from all the s.

Nenapirali deals with four young people with different strengths and attitudes. We would see them in our day to day life. You dont find any character in the film who is unusual and there is hardly any dramatic moments in the film to create an unwanted twist in the story. It is a neat film with neat narration and neat performances. It is the story that comes straight from the heart and not from the mind. The story is not fresh and reminds us of some Enid Blyton stuff but still it looks good on the screen mainly because of some good technical back up and good acting performances.

The story deals with two friends Kishor(Prem )and
Ekanth who are thick with each other and share every experience with each other. They belong to different stratas of society, but still the bond of friendship is great.Eknath is in love with a rich girl Sindhu who tells that her parents are opposed to their alliance.Eknath does a trick to get Kishor into the picture. Both of you should act in such a way that you are in love.Anyway, Sindhu's parents are opposed to love marriage and they would oppose it.Then it will be easy for me to approach Sindhu's parents for an alliance' says Eknath who convinces both Kishor and Sindhu. All things work out well.Vidya understands Kishor's concern and good behaviour towards her. She also comes to know that Kishor is a worthy friend of Eknath. After Eknath's marriage,Kishor goes to Maganalore to work in Eknath's branch office. Here he comes across Indu, the sister of Sindhu who is completely different from her sister. She is an extrovert giving to talking what she feels at that moment.Kishor and Indu becomes closer and they are in love.Meanwhile, Eknath dies in a motor accident.Eknath's father wants Sindhu to remarry and the mantle of convincing Sindhu falls on Kishor and Indu.Sindhu tells Kishor that she would rather marry him and not any one else. Now, the dilemma starts.Indu tells that she is prepared to sacrifice her love, which is unacceptable to Kishor. Finally Kishor and Indu get united and even Sindhu accepts this fait acompli.

Rathnaja comes out with flying colours in his first attempt, but he is aptly supported by a technica team of veterans including music maestro Hasalekha,Award winning Editor Kemparaj and cinemetographer H.M.Ramachandra known for his details in his work. All the songs of the film are well written and well composed. They are captured very well on the screen. Prem,Vidya Venkatesh have done their roles adequately, but it is new comer Varsha in the role of Indu who shines well. The character artists have performed their given opportunities to perfection.

Nenapirali is a class film and is a good film to watch. For the Kannada film industry which is now shining this is one more film that brings lot of accolades.

Yuga Kannada Movie - Cam Print

Cast: Vijay, Kavya, Sudha Belawadi, Mico Nagaraj, Mahadevu
Direction: Chandra
Music: Arjun

Yuga - An action feast!

He is a ruffian. Robust in build! Ugly in looks! Terror to trouble shooters! He can put down tormentors who come from any direction. He can rise above the ground and use his two legs to hit at the prominent nerve at the neck. That is 'Yuga'. The orphan child grows in slum and streets make it a point to earn money. Money is everything for him. Morality is next to him. Because he has been treated shabbily in life.

Yuga (Vijay) with his group takes revenge on the prominent underworld don Pai in Mangalore. He did not expect the danger would be so strong for him. The police in an encounter to this killing by Yuga shoot him in the stomach. He escapes from there and in an isolated house he gets treatment. He is advised to stay there for ten days as the hunt to put him down is going on everywhere. Yuga does according to his master.

In his 10 days stay in the rural doctor house he knows what affection is and how important it is to life. He meets Harini (Kavya) who is suffering from severe bronchitis in this village. The bail application is ready for Yuga and he is forced to leave the village and surrender. Back after bail Yuga has real problems shooting up. The Pai gang from Mangalore hatches a plot. Around this time his mentor needs his help to win the election.

What happens to Yuga in the stiff opposition from Pai gang? You want to know it. Go and watch this action feast.

In his debut director Chandra has worked on the scenes not on the story. His screenplay is tight and appealing to the front benchers.

Dhuniya Vijay action scenes are splendid. His front and back somersaults and strength in action is the redeeming feature of this film. He has to improve in dialogue deliver and make an attempt to look decent. Kavya has no big deal in her debut. Sudha Belawadi's controlled emotion is as usual best.

The second notable aspect of this film is cinematography by Veenus Murthy. The angles he has chosen the action scenes he has captured deserves him applaud. Two songs are OK in 'Yuga'.

A film for action lovers 'Yuga' showcases actor Vijay's capacity in electrifying stunts.

Auto Shankar Kannada Movie

Banner: Ramu Entertainer
Cast: Upendra, Shilpa Shetty, Radhika, Sudharani

Production: Ramu
Music: Gurukiran

Auto Shanker Movie Review

Story -writer Ajaykumar has rehashed some of the yesteryear hit Kannada films of Dr.Rajkumar era. The box office hit of Dr.Rajkumar 'Sampathige Savaal' is the inspiration for 'Auto Shanker'. Nevertheless this is a high voltage action packed film with dose of sentiments, comedy, good music and photography. Upendra and Shilpa Shetty steal the show.

Auto Shanker (Upendra) is jovial and generous. He comes to the rescue of his colleague when the moneylender Maaya (Shilpa Shetty) creates ruckus on the road. The insult Maya meets further boils up the situation. When Shanker father without informing him borrows money from Maya and not able to return the interest on time the hell breaks out. But Shanker throws the money his father has borrowed overnight. This further enrages Maaya and she takes a step to bring the entire Auto Shanker colony to come to streets. Now Shanker comes to Maaya's doorstep for help. Maya lends money on conditions. When Shanker fails to give back Maaya is aspiring for revenge but Shanker bounce back with legal points in lending money. He is of course studying in evening college the director register it. The ultimatum now comes from Maaya. She goes to the extent of killing Shanker but becomes a house arrest. Maaya is kept in a cow shed and she is taught a lesson. At this time Shanker comes to know the past of Maaya. Shanker shakes the entire gang of Maaya's mother Kalamma and gang. Shanker now takes the help of Tata Sumo instead of auto and reduces the power of opponents. In the midst Maaya receives injury. Shanker gives his blood and saves Maaya. After recovery Maaya realizes what is life and how important money is in front of morality. She gives back the entire money to the people and begs for admission in the life of Shanker.

This is a loud film. The length is the disgusting point. We feel like watching two films. Senior director D.Rajendra Babu should have cut the film by at least 30 percent to make it crisp entertainer. There is a smell of Telugu films in this Kannada film.

Upendra and Shilpa Shetty have equal roles. But Upendra with his agile looks and wonderful dialogue delivery, stunts and dance gets full marks. What is notable is that Bollywood heroine Shilpa Shetty approving for deglamourised role. Telengana Shakuntala is a pain to watch. Radhika doing the second heroine role shows her mettle in two song sequences with Upendra. Sadhu Kokila's comedy is an eye opener.

Gurukiran has given three lovely tunes - Kachi Kachi Ninna Thinnala.., Raja Nanna Raja (retuned from Dr.Rajkumar film Sampathige Savaal) and Ready Ready..., live long in the memory. H.C.Venu as cameraman disturbs the eyes in some places but over all he has showed great degree of skill.

An above average entertainer! This is a wonderful treat to Upendra fans.

Honganasu Kannada Movie

Cast: Prem, Anuradha Mehta, Anjali, Anant Nag, Tarun, Sharan, Ramesh Bhat
Direction: Rathnaja
Producer: Ajay Gowda
Music Director: Hamsalekha

Movie Review
Honganasu directed by Rathnaja was certainly an expected film from the point of view of the wide appreciation obtained by the director's first film 'Nenapirali'. And leading man Prem Kumar had so much of hopes on this film that he had taken active interest in promoting this film. But Rathnaja who has been considered as a talented director changed the course and focus of Kannada films has failed to utilize the opportunity and comes out with a mediocre film. The film drags in the second half to such an extent that it may well test your patience also.

Though Rathnaja has shot many portions of the film in the picturesque spots in Kerala and the songs have been presented well, the weak spot of the film comes in the second half when the lengthy flash back narrates the background story. And the first half of the film offers nothing but some songs and some insipid sequences in better looking outdoor locales.

Though Rathnaja claims that the story is the strong point of the film, it has to be said that he has not cared to fine tune the story and the narrative part of the film. Though the Veteran artists have performed well in the film, Anuradha Mehta who plays an important role in the film fails to make the impact her character deserves.

Sagar (Prem) has great reverence and an obsessive affection for his yet to be sister-in-law played by Soumya (Anuradha Mehta). Parents of Sagar have decided to get the marriage of their first son Santhosh with Sowmya when both of them were very young. Even Sowmya's parents have agreed to such proposal, and though she is yet to be married to Santhosh she is being invited and consulted for every thing that occurs in Sagar's family. Sagar has such a great reverence to Sowmya that he is prepared to even quarrel with Santhosh and his sister to protect his yet to be sister-in-law. And the main bottleneck to Santhosh's marriage is that Sagar's sister does not agree to any marriage proposal. Finally, she agrees to marry a boy who sets a pre condition. He is prepared to marry Sagar's sister but then his sister has to be married by one of the two brothers. Sagar has to sacrifice his love for the sake of his sister's marriage and Sowmya's marriage with Santhosh. But Santhosh says that he is not prepared to marry. Sagar's dream remains shattered.

The related sequences of this story go on and on in the second half that you don't find any escape routes like comedy. The comedy in the first half is good, but there is no space for it in the second half. And the editor has also not cared to chop off the boring sequences. Result is that the film drags on for ever.

Prem Kumar has tried his level best to improve on his performance in the levels. New comer Anjali comes out good in the limited scope she has in the film. But Anuradha Mehta is a clear let down. She does not show any involvement in carrying this important role in her career. Anant Nag, Vinaya Prasad and Ramesh Bhat have done their roles with ease. Sharan brings in some lighter moments.

Two tunes "Kandu Konde Kandu Konde', and 'Lagge Lagge Sahyadrige' by music director Hamsalekha are impressive. Camera work of Anant Urs could have been little more effective.

"Honganasu' is just an average fare from director Rathnaja who was looked with lot of promise.

Paramesha Paanwala Kannada Movie

Cast : Shivaraj Kumar, Survin Chawla, Shrinivasmurty, Ashish Vidyarthi, Chitra Shaney, Akul Balaji, Sadhu Kokila, Sharan.

Director : Mahesh Babu

Cinematographer : Venus Murthy

Producer : Aditya Babu

Music Director : Harikrishna

Paramesha Paanwala Kannada Movie Review

Director Mahesh Babu's "Paramesha Paanwala" is much better than any recent films of Shivaraj Kumar. The second half of the narrative has lot of enjoyable moments and it will please cinegoers.

Writer Maharshi's story is not fresh - it is just a rehash of his previous Kannada films "Bindaas" and "Bombaat" - but the comedy sequences featuring Sadhu Kokila and Om Prakash Rao and a fitting climax save the film.

Maharshi has also lifted some sequences from Telugu films and incorporated them in "Paramesha Paanwala". The opening sequence of the film, where the hero's sister is humiliated by a baddie and the subsequent entry of the hero, has been lifted from Telugu film "Lakshmi" starring Victory Venkatesh.

The film has too many flaws. For instance, the first half moves at very slow pace and then there is a lack of continuity. Hero Shivaraj's different look in the songs and the fight scenes are baffling.

But Shivaraj Kumar's lively performance and comical episodes featuring Om Prakash and Sadhu make up for the the flaws. Om Prakash and Sadhu's comic timing, body language and dialogue delivery are a treat to watch.

The comedy sequences are executed deftly and it would be difficult for the audiences to control their laughter whenever these two artistes appear on the scene. A great job indeed!

The story revolves around Paramesha, who owns a paan shop. He loves making paan for good people, but keeps wicked people away from his shop.

Paramesha has a sister and he makes sure that nobody dares to mess with her.

A senior police officer approaches Paramesha proposing his sister's marriage with his son who is a doctor. Parmesha accepts the proposal, but later discovers that the officer had an ulterior motive behind the alliance.

The officer had killed a don's son in an encounter for raping a girl and killing a policeman.

And now the don wants to avenge his son's death by killing the officer's son. It need not be over emphasised that Paramesha comes out as a winner in this game of wits.

Shivaraj Kumar has given a pleasing performance in the film. Surveen Chawla, who plays the female lead in the film, is just seen in song sequences picturised abroad. Sonu is impressive in the sister's role. Sharan, who plays the role of Shivaraj Kumar's sidekick, has too little scope to display his talent.

If you want to have some hearty laughs, watch "Paramesha Paanwala".

Anthu Inthu Preethi Banthu Kannada Movie

Director: Veera Shankar
Producer: Aditya Arts
Starring: Aditya Babu, Ramya, Harish.
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja, Gurukiran

Anthu Inthu Preethi Banthu Movie Review

Anthu Inthu Preethi Banthu directed by Veerashankar who has made a Kannada film Namma Basava with Puneet Raj Kumar, is a launch vehicle for Adithya Babu who has also produced the film. It is the remake of Telugu film Aadavari Matalaki Ardhale Verule, starring Venkatesh and Trisha and directed by Selvaraghavan.

The original family entertainer did not boast of a great story, but its presentation was much appreciated. But the producer and director of the film had shamelessly claimed that AIPB was supposedly based on Telugu novel Anandamanandamaayee, though they had no qualms of admitting its source later. To be frank, Veerashankar has made some changes and has introduced a few characters like that of Rangayana Raghu, but other than that he has not been able to get the right impact from this film.

Veerashankar had said that he had made some changes to suit the nativity here, but it has not reflected in the film. He has more or less followed the original script written by Raghava. And Music director Guru Kiran who has so many original tunes for his credit has just lifted the tunes of the original Telugu film.

The story revolves around software professionals and it has been linked to the family. Except the introduction of Rangayana Raghu’s character, the story remains the same as in the original film.

Adithya Babu has put in efforts to do a good job in the film, but he has been uneven. In some of the sequences he is really found wanting, but he seems to have come out of this groove later in the emotional sequences. He has to improve over his emotional side of performance. Ramya could have put in some more efforts to look convincing in this role. But she looks extremely glamorous in songs. Veteran artists Lokanath, Sreenivasa Murthy, Harish, Mandya Ramesh have acquitted in their respective roles comfortably.

Venu’s camera work is the highlight. Since the tunes have been lifted from original Telugu film, it is only Guru Kiran’s background track which can come under scrutiny.

But editing could have been a little better.

A neat film that can be recommended for family audience.
