Paramesha Paanwala Kannada Movie Review

Director Mahesh Babu's "Paramesha Paanwala" is much better than any recent films of Shivaraj Kumar. The second half of the narrative has lot of enjoyable moments and it will please cinegoers.

Writer Maharshi's story is not fresh - it is just a rehash of his previous Kannada films "Bindaas" and "Bombaat" - but the comedy sequences featuring Sadhu Kokila and Om Prakash Rao and a fitting climax save the film.

Maharshi has also lifted some sequences from Telugu films and incorporated them in "Paramesha Paanwala". The opening sequence of the film, where the hero's sister is humiliated by a baddie and the subsequent entry of the hero, has been lifted from Telugu film "Lakshmi" starring Victory Venkatesh.

The film has too many flaws. For instance, the first half moves at very slow pace and then there is a lack of continuity. Hero Shivaraj's different look in the songs and the fight scenes are baffling.

But Shivaraj Kumar's lively performance and comical episodes featuring Om Prakash and Sadhu make up for the the flaws. Om Prakash and Sadhu's comic timing, body language and dialogue delivery are a treat to watch.

The comedy sequences are executed deftly and it would be difficult for the audiences to control their laughter whenever these two artistes appear on the scene. A great job indeed!

The story revolves around Paramesha, who owns a paan shop. He loves making paan for good people, but keeps wicked people away from his shop.

Paramesha has a sister and he makes sure that nobody dares to mess with her.

A senior police officer approaches Paramesha proposing his sister's marriage with his son who is a doctor. Parmesha accepts the proposal, but later discovers that the officer had an ulterior motive behind the alliance.

The officer had killed a don's son in an encounter for raping a girl and killing a policeman.

And now the don wants to avenge his son's death by killing the officer's son. It need not be over emphasised that Paramesha comes out as a winner in this game of wits.

Shivaraj Kumar has given a pleasing performance in the film. Surveen Chawla, who plays the female lead in the film, is just seen in song sequences picturised abroad. Sonu is impressive in the sister's role. Sharan, who plays the role of Shivaraj Kumar's sidekick, has too little scope to display his talent.

If you want to have some hearty laughs, watch "Paramesha Paanwala".

Birugaali Kannada Movie

Cast - Chetan Kumar, Sitara Vaidya, Aakanksha Sontalia, Charisma Bharadwaj, Taara

Music - Arjun
Director - Harsha A
Producer - Adarsh Enterprises

"Birugaali" is Harsha Reddy's second directorial venture. Just like his first film "Geleya", the choreographer-turned-director has used all the commercial ingredients in this film too.

While "Mungaru Male" writer Preetham Gubbi wrote the story of his directorial debut, Reddy has himself penned the story of his second film.

His debut film "Geleya" did show sparks of his talent and he won accolades for beautiful picturisation of songs. Even in his second film "Birugaali" the song picturisation is classy and choreography is perfect. But the film suffers because of a weak story and slow pace of narrative.

Set in the underworld, "Birugaali" is a romantic film. But the narrative is so slow that the second half drags. There are too many unnecessary sequences in the film that makes it a dull fare.

The story revolves around Hachchi who is in love with Karishma. There is another girl called Anju who is in love with him, but she never shows her emotions. Meanwhile, Hachchi gets involved with underworld dons who want to have a full control over the crime world. And they are being helped by a police officer.

How Hachchi comes out of their clutches forms the rest of the story. And there is also a sentimental angle to the whole story when Hachchi's identity is revealed by his mother.

Chethan, who had excelled in his first film "Aa Dinagalu", proves his mettle in action and sentimental scenes. Though he has worked hard to get the required physique for the action scenes, he doesn't look convincing in romantic sequences.

Sithara Vaidya has got a good role in the film and Tara is impressive too. H.C. Venu has done a good work behind the camera. Arjun's compositions are melodious. The song "Madhura Pisumaathige" is well-composed and well-picturised.

"Birugaali" could have been a good entertainer if the narrative was a little fast. The film can be seen once.

Junglee Kannada Movie

Cast: Vijay, Andrita Ray, Rangayana Raghu, Adhi Lokesh, Sureschandra, Megabhagavatar, Kashi, Jaidev, Balu, Naveen

Director: Soori

Producer: Rockline Venkatesh

Soori directed Junglee has an assemblage of many top technicians of the Kannada film industry. Duniya Vijay who earlier got his first break as a hero under Soori has acted in the title role of this film. Since the audio of the film had become a chart buster and the songs had a popular appeal, many film industry personalities had expected this much expected film to revive the depleting fortunes of the Kannada film industry. However the film ends up as an ordinary fare thanks to a confusing script and crude narration by Soori.

Despite excellent song sequences, Andrita's glamour and a few action sequences featuring Vijay, Junglee has nothing else to write about. Soori's writing ability which had excelled in his earlier films has gone for a toss in this film. .

Though Vijay enjoys good screen chemistry with Rangayana Raghu, some of the dialogues written for them are in poor taste. And too many sequences look repetitive and irritating. And even the love sequences between the hero and heroine lacks subtlety which lessens the impact. Soori has depended more on the commercial aspects in Junglee than following the pattern seen of presenting harsh realities on screen.

Another weak point Junglee is that film lacks authentic touch. The characters in the film do not represent the characters that we often see in our midst.

The highlight of the film is certainly the songs. The composition and lyrics are good.
Yogaraj Bhatt's lyrics in Hale Paathre and Powder Haakkollo are mass oriented while Jayanth Kaikini writes one brilliant song Neenendhare Nannolage. Andrita Ray looks sensuous and glamorous on screen in all the three songs.

Here is the brief description of the story. Junglee Prabhakar wants to become an actor and takes the help of Gudde Narasimha, a good for nothing person who however is very influential. Gudde takes him to a retired Don Guruswamy for getting him a film offer. Meanwhile, Junglee falls in love with a college girl Padma and tries his best to please her. During one of the inter gang fights between rival groups, Junglee saves Guruswamy. But Padma's father is killed in the process. Padma wants Junglee to severe his connections with the gang. And there is a big story later told in straight and flash back narration which could be best seen on screen.

Performance wise, Vijay shows his mettle in a few sequences. Rangayana Raghu irritates in a few sequences. Andrita is good in dance sequences. Aadi Lokesh has nothing much to do in the Villain's role. Nanjunda and Sureshchandra are good in their respective roles.
Hari Krishna's music and Sathya Hegde's camera work are really good.

Junglee is a mixed bag. It could have been a better film if Soori had worked a little more on the script.
